It has been a while since I last made these lemon poppyseed scones, but they are just as tasty as I remember.
A cooling rack filled with small lemon poppyseed scones. The scones are a pale brown with black flecks. A lemon glaze was just drizzled over them, and the excess puddles on the parchment paper beneath the rack.

Today a stranger gave me a bouquet of flowers in a grocery store parking lot. 💜 Goddamn, it’s nice to be reminded of the kindness and generosity that can find you out in the world.

Bruce takes a steady breath and accepts the call. “Hey, Tim,” he says as he unlocks his car. “I’m—” “Sorry,” a mechanized voice cuts in, and Bruce goes still, fingers curled around the driver door handle. “Tim’s not available right now.” -- Or: Instead of taking over the drug trade, Red Hood kidnaps Bruce Wayne.

My adventure was the farmers market! In addition to the food below, I bought a breakfast burrito and got my kitchen knives sharpened. Then I donated blood and came home and crashed for four hours because I am too old to have a productive day after losing 500ml/1 pint. 😂
A farmers market haul of focaccia, peaches, cherry tomatoes, a yellow bell pepper, and a green bell pepper, all arranged in a questionably artistic manner.

Undeterred by the previous lackluster attempt, I am now experimenting with raspberry. (I have, however, learned from my hubris: notice how I only have one jar this time? 😂)

Alas, the underripe peaches were not saved by dousing them in sugar. I have, however, ended up with a sliiightly fruity, slightly citrus-y simple syrup which is fine. It IS vividly orange at least! Good enough to mix a drink up with a shot of vodka and some club soda.

Attempting to make peach and lemon syrup because that struck me as appropriately summery this weekend.
Two quart jars filled with thinly sliced peaches and lemons, with a WHOLE bunch of sugar mixed in and a thick layer of sugar on top. Much of the sugar is already dissolving.

Decided to try a new-to-me recipe today. My kitchen is now a mess, but I’ve got two dozen zucchini biscuits now. They pair quite nicely with the chicken soup I’ve frozen, and now to test if they freeze just as well (the recipe claims they do).

Continuing my tradition of brunch before the theater! Went to the bakery I normally get a coffee and a pastry from on days I’m in the office (didn’t get downtown early enough to go to the bar for their brunch, once you factor in walking distance). Got a bar seat instead of waiting for a table.
Brunch at a bakery: a slice of quiche, a generous heaping of fried potato slices, and a single mimosa. There is also a glass of water and some napkin-rolled cutlery.
