Democracy Under Siege
@chasg76.bsky.social
American democracy is under siege, by the Supreme Court declaring the president a king, a president that pardons insurrectionists that violently assaulted Capitol police, and by out-of-control ICE agents, in masks, seizing legal immigrants and US citizens.

Crockett: We're talking about them going after Clyburn in South Carolina, Andre Carson in Indiana, Reverend Cleaver in Missouri. Emilia Sykes in Ohio, three of the four black representatives that we currently have in the state of Texas.

So don't tell me this isn't about race…

Happy Independence Day, TX-30.

Let this day be a reminder that democracy doesn’t protect itself.

We’ve got to keep showing up, speaking out, and standing firm—until freedom feels real for everyone.

I’ve been thinking this all along. If they need to be deported, send them home. If they need to be locked up, the prisons should be here after a trial and guilty verdict. How can they just be shipped off to prison in another country and why are my tax dollars paying for it?

Damn‼️ Federal agents blew a door off for this?

Federal agents blasted their way into an LA home where Jenny Ramirez lives with her boyfriend and two kids.

She heard the blast while checking on her 6-year-old, with her 1-year-old in her arms.

Ramirez says everyone in the home is a U.S. citizen.

MUST WATCH: Oceanside CA: Militarized DHS (HSI) smashed windows, assault rifles drawn, tossed flashbangs and sent drones into the apartment which had 2 kids inside. They then told neighbors they were going to use tear gas, and they’d probably be exposed. Please share widely. WTF

My relatives in East L.A. — born in the U.S.A. — are afraid to go outside because masked men with guns are randomly snatching people off the street.

This is a government terrorism campaign against its own people.

ICE's increasingly aggressive tactics are unacceptable and dangerous. They do not make us any safer.

I’m calling for an independent investigation right now — this abuse of power must end.
Warren, Markey call for probe into ‘escalating aggression’ by federal agents in immigration raids - The Boston Globe
The Massachusetts senators called for the investigation in a letter sent Wednesday to the US Department of Homeland Security.

I signed the final bills Melissa Hortman shepherded through the most narrowly divided legislature in the county. All of them bipartisan.

We debated, we found common ground, and we compromised.

That’s how democracy should function.

Why are the American taxpayers footing the bill for 10 armed "ICE" agents to arrest one un-armed man in a suit at a courthouse when all they had to do, if just cause, was to have one person hand him a warrant? Where is the document? What was the reason? WHO are these guys? Why did they not show ID?

holy shit -- acting US attorney Thompson details that Boelter went to the homes of two other elected officials after shooting Hoffman but before going to Hortman's house. One cop encountered him at the third house but thought he was a police officer.

This doesn’t happen in America. This is what happens in dictatorships, when federal agents silence lawmakers for asking questions. A sitting U.S. Senator was physically removed and restrained by his own government. That’s not just a breach of protocol, it’s a warning sign.

Mark this for the history books: “We’re talking about the president exercising his authority, and the president is of course limited to his authority. That’s the difference between a constitutional government and King George,” said Judge Charles Breyer.

(And one is, thankfully, back in the United States, facing Trumped up charges that were filed in a pathetic attempt to save face.)

Don't let them lie to you about Senator Padilla. DHS is claiming the agents DID NOT KNOW he was a senator. He CLEARLY says (BEFORE he is tackled and cuffed) "I am Senator Alex Padilla and I have a question for the secretary."
