A sad fate for the former McBarge, which has spent the 3+ decades as a derelict in Burrard Inlet, then later in Maple Ridge. I boarded it as a 4 year old during Expo 86, when it was a floating McDonald's, but I was a bit too young to fully appreciate the experience!

Decades after it housed a floating McDonald’s restaurant during Expo 86, the famous “McBarge” has capsized in B.C.’s Fraser River.

Silent e-scooters zooming up on you from behind on the sidewalks are a menace! Rules are that you should alert a pedestrian on a sidewalk with your bell, which I doubt most riders have, and according to our municipal webpage on the subject, they're not supposed to be on sidewalks.

Thanks to cloud cover & light pollution I'm missing out on the light show tonight over the skies of North America. 😑 But at least I got to see them last spring.

Still on X formally known as Twitter, & just encountered one of many misleading quack 'therapies' designed to separate the gullible from their money/life. Inhaling CO₂ through a device. Placing one's head in a plastic bag would accomplish the same thing at minimal cost.

☝️ Please DON'T do that.

Got both the flu & updated COVID immunizations same day, same arm, which is a bit stiff but that's the extent of post-vaccination effects for me.

Happy I don't have to pay a $100 administrative fee that the Province next door is charging non-high risk residents.

The last boat of the Flotilla sails on! I can only hope this is still the case when I wake up tomorrow. 🤞🤞

With 1 boat from the Sumud Flotilla still sailing as of this writing, it needs to be said that bringing food to starving people should never be met with interception & illegal detention in a foreign state's prison. But the gov'ts of the major Western powers tolerate this. Only $$$ matters to them.

I figure the chance of actually getting fatally shot as a Canadian visitor to the USA is very low, but for this unfortunate young victim's family & friends back home, the statistical rarity will offer zero consolation. Rest in peace.

I'll just be hanging onto mine, thanks.

NOT A SPOILER: Just watched yesterday's episode of Y&R (Canada airs 1 episode ahead of US). Longtime viewers know that Victor Newman often says, among other quotes:

"YOU GOT THAT?!"

to his offscreen henchmen & informants. Well today, he said the phrase to his darling wife Nikki's face. 🤣

I don't know HOW Israel expects 1 million residents of Gaza City to evacuate before their 'mighty hurricane' is unleashed, or WHERE. No gasoline, just fuel made from melted plastics, & Khan Yunis/Rafah are rubble with insufficient capacity to receive such a vast influx, even if people could move.
September 9, 2025 at 11:57 PM
While I was asleep, the largest humanitarian aid flotilla so far has left Barcelona to attempt to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. 50+ vessels from 44 nations. Godspeed & smooth sailing to everyone who has joined.

If I were moving to Y&R's Genoa City, I'd start up a corporation that specializes in liver regeneration therapies. I'd have a built-in market the way the denizens of that city are always boozing it up with hard liquor multiple times a day everyday.

Ableist microaggressions are so dumb. These ignoramuses are like Homer Simpson seeing a senior on a mobility aid/respirator & saying, "And here I am using my own legs/lungs like a sucker."

Being able-bodied is the ultimate perk b/c the world is designed for it first.

So the Wally's Burgers location in Vancouver has closed its doors for good. I intended to get around to trying it someday but never got around to it thinking it'd always be open.

Just another small reminder that there's no time like the present. The future is not guaranteed.

So glad right now I don't live in GTA; their temps are reminding me of the summer 2021 heat dome over southern BC that claimed the lives of 619 souls. And I've heard many a time from former residents that their humidity is a lot worse than Van city's.

Here we're still getting rain & it's under 20.

Some lazy person took a shopping cart from a local business & parked it in the alley behind my place. I was headed to that business today & thought I may as well return it. Got that lazy person's loonie for my trouble. 😊

It's great to find Irish cheeses popping up alongside English ones in a faraway western Canadian supermarket (Save-On-Foods). This cheese that comes out of County Limerick is quite addictive IMO, and nearly as good is the fact that it doesn't bother my lactose intolerance.

This aerial photo of the wildfires threatening the western Manitoba community of Flin Flon looks almost apocalyptic from this vantage. It must look like a vision of Hell to the brave crews on the ground who have so far contained these fires. There's a chance of rain so fingers crossed.

I'm especially drawn to flying the small ships for long haul exploration missions. The agility of such craft makes them a pleasure to fly, but also the awareness that only a thin barrier of canopy glass stands between you & the infinite void, is especially pronounced in small ships.
