Broke the losing streak with a 2-0-1 in this week's EOE draft, drawing the finals against GW. Not pictured is the Chrome Companion that did huge work against my mill opponent and combos well with GSZ. 3 decks in a row with Cryogen Relic, going to test it in Pauper Familiars this week!

1-2 again in EOE draft with UB control. Definitely feeling the sizing-matters aspect of the format, as huge strain was put on my removal when many of my creatures were outsized. Board wipe was good but the mill was never relevant. Keen to keep learning this format!

I had the idea of plotting number of times picked in #P0P1 versus GIHWR.

Basically: upper-right are cards that were expected to be strong, and are (thus far); upper-left are the surprisingly strong cards; lower-right are the surprisingly weak cards.

I've looked at plots like...

1-2 in my first EOE draft with UR artifacts. 1 non-round with 6 lands drawn off of Cerebral download across 2 games. Passed some early red aggro artifacts which put my neighbour into UR as well. Would have liked to lower the curve, have more artifacts for sacrificing, and a cryoshatter or two.

Here's my picks for the @mtgds.bsky.social P0P1 challenge - I picked cards I think will be generically good for all 17 lands users over better cards with more niche applications 🧵

Here's the hack to getting better at Magic

Win = Win = Serotonin

Lose with punt = Win + Improvement = Serotonin

Lose without punt = surely you made SOME mistake = Improvement = Serotonin

3-0 in tonight's paper vintage cube draft with a very janky W aggro deck. Definitely not a sceptre deck and lacking good bounce targets, phelia and wemperor were excellent however. Nothing beats fast mana and threats followed by Armageddon to close things out.

Another 2-1 this week, this time with dragonback assault doing work! Not the ideal list, passed on fixing in pack 1 then saw very little later on, contrary to my drafts at the start of the format. Enjoying the consistency I'm achieving with my results - the 3-0 will come soon!

2-1 in this week's TDM draft with RW splash narset - plenty of combat tricks in place of removal. Had an absolute blast with this one, used both seize opportunity and rally the monastery to pump for exactly lethal in my final game! 🤩

0-2 drop from the RC today - everyone was prepared for izzet prowess and my lack of focussed testing meant I was thinking through things I should have had the intuition for. Hymn of the Wilds gave me an easy 3-0 in MB2 sealed though! Playing TDM sealed tomorrow for a shot at requalification 🤞

RC deck registered! I was torn between Oculus and Prowess for the last week but I've committed to the deck that has the highest upside draws. I wish my testing had been as focussed as previous RCs, I still have unanswered questions about some matchups. Best of luck to everyone competing tomorrow!

So wrapped up in RC prep that I forgot to post this 2-0-1 from this week's draft! Last round was crazy - opp won g1 with 3 cards in library, then I won g2 on a mull to 5 vs 7, then in the final game packbeasts made 6 tokens a turn from Windcrag Siege. Glad to be constantly improving at this format!

No draft for me last week but returned tonight with the most medium pile of cards to ever 2-1 a draft. There was definitely a great mardu deck in my seat that I should have been more open to jumping into. My focus has been more on standard for the 🇦🇺 RC in 2 weeks 👁👁

1-1-1 in this week's TDM draft with Champion of Dusan beats. Herd Hierloom and Naga Fleshcrafter both play well in the archetype. My mana worked but definitely shouldn't have and I will not use this to justify bad manabases in future. Thank you @sampratt.bsky.social for the insightful episode!

0-3 in my first TDM draft with Abzan splashing for cards that in hindsight are only powerful with pressure behind them. First 2 opponents both had Cori-Steel Cutter, Roar of Endless Song and Jeskai Shrinekeeper which easily outvalued my deck. Keen to draft more of this set - only up from here! 😅

WotC can spend as much money as they want on marketing new sets but nothing will be more effective than @bsweitz123.bsky.social 's design threads and this incredible draft pool 🤩 if I can draft a deck like this consistently, this will be a GOAT format for me 🙏
First ever draft of #MTGTarkir in the real world :) Dragonback Assault + Encroaching Dragonstorm is truly silly #wotcstaff

1-2 in our final DFT draft - bit of a trainwreck here. Some good pieces but would have much preferred to play the blue cards I saw and specced on. Keen for Tarkir next week!
March 31, 2025 at 11:01 AM
1-1-1 this week with a worse version of last week's deck. By far the trickiest draft of DFT I've done - nothing happening until all the artifact pay-offs arrived in pack 3. Definitely need to work on my draft awareness when a powerful deck isn't clear in my seat. Final DFT draft next week, then TDM!

2-1 this week with UB splashing Gunner which paired nicely with Vnwxt and Chariot. Flyers felt great, my loss was to GW that put more pressure on the ground than I could handle. Always love to play a deck where you have to be careful not to draw the whole thing 😍
March 11, 2025 at 4:22 AM
4-3 in the open, winning against energy and losing against Breach. Moral of the story is just play the broken deck 😅 still had a great time over the weekend and hoping for some pass downs so I can run it back in Melbourne in May 🤞
March 9, 2025 at 9:54 PM
3-4 drop for me at the Australian RC, much better than my first RC performance but still plenty to work on. Keen to run it back today in the 5k open, focusing on keeping solid hands and taking time to play intentionally.
March 8, 2025 at 10:56 PM
75 submitted for the Australian RC this weekend 🙌 haven't played an RC since 2023, not feeling as confident as I did for the last 5k open but I'm really keen to play some high-stakes magic again 😁
March 6, 2025 at 11:57 AM
2-1 this week taking @jakebrowne.com 's advice on UW as an artifact ramp deck. Would have liked a 3rd Voyage Home/Hullbreacher to chain into each other. Also funny to note that you can't put Marketback Walker into hand with Guidelight Pathmaker, only onto the battlefield for X=0 😭
March 3, 2025 at 10:29 PM
If I post the highs then I also have to post the lows: 0-3 with what I thought was a decent BG deck. Turns out a slow format doesn't mean you can forego your curve entirely - would definitely play the mutant surveyors I left in the board in hindsight.

3-0 in my first Aetherdrift draft thanks to golgari no rares 🏆 Broodheart Engine felt better than what I've heard from others, shefet archfiend also did work after an opponent played 2 nimble thopterists but felt awkward in other places. Keen to play more of this set!
