At the end it is reflecting what we value as a society which is the output regardless of understanding
with big data and rapidly evolving world we do need AI assistance but maybe redirected towards gaining skills and knowledge rather than accepted final output

While the Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS)-based is defined as Top-down proteomics analysing intact proteins, while bottom-up proteomics digests proteins into peptides before analysis.
But I do agree with you, also when we say pixel we all intuitively think imaging.

This figure is from a paper [source in the alt text] where they combine LC-MS/MS with with micro-manipulation techniques, such as laser capture microdissection (LCM) and that can be done on ROI or pixel by pixel level
