My beloved White Mountains Insurance $WTM launched a tender offer for ~6% of shares. They always keep a (rising) floor on the share price. Funded courtesy of CVC Capital ridiculously overpaying for Bamboo. Don't understand why $WTM is so little loved.

This transaction adds $310 per share (+ ~17%) to book value based on an asset that was marked at $91 per share at their annual shareholder meeting - and was just acquired last year.

April market activity reminds me of the myth of Sisyphus: markets tank based on the ravings of a dishonest, fickle madman, but then reflate based on hopes of a trade deal. But then markets are reminded that this madman has a lifelong history of unreliable behavior, and the boulder rolls back down.

It's difficult to convey to a non-American the collective mental illness of this cult. Trump promoted this false cure for COVID, and now a state government is making it available without a prescription so that it is easily available to true believers (in total quackery).

I can't help but feeling that decades of presidential candidates from both parties declaring the United States "the greatest country in the history of the world" contributed to the insidious sub-mediocrity of it all.
