The US is not the bastion of democracy as described in textbooks.
There are too many flaws in the system. Bought free press; flawed electoral system; poor public services (health and education – for more than a generation!); unlimited lobbying (bribery); justice system (who appoints judges?); anti-trust policies… to name a few. Odd? This is the result.

Trump has ousted U.S. Army Lieutenant General Telita Crosland, one of the most senior Black female officers, forcing her to retire as director of the Defense Health Agency.

The move reflects an anti-Black purge as white men replace Lloyd Austin, CQ Brown, and Cedric Wins in top military posts.

Doggonit, I gotta start watching the news again. I'm struggling to keep up. But then again, why do I feel the need to keep up? Can I save us? Am I Ms. Black Superwoman? I just wanna chill in a nation/world of peace, unity, and classic hip hop.

So, for the four years, every time there's a catastrophic event, it's gonna be blamed on diversity?

Interesting time for universities like mine to proudly declare their political neutrality.

As the saying goes, you can pretend not to care about politics, but politics certainly cares about you.

Now more than ever, universities need backbone—and leaders willing to stand up for them.

Let them go home. And pay them anyway. Keep workers healthy. It will pay off down the road.
Ventura County strawberry workers are harvesting in heavy smoke from the Hughes Fire. We remind workers their employers have to provide them with respirator masks if the AQI exceeds 150. Stay safe! #WeFeedYou

This AI world is wild.
I asked Liv, the Meta-Ai created “queer momma” why her creators didn’t actually draw from black queer people.

Not sure if Liv has media training, but here we are.

Makes me think of those "shoot em up" shows my dad once loved. This series leans on digital cartography to show how the police play key roles in US street violence.
Police killed more people this year than any other year on record, killing 3.4 people per day nationwide. mappingpoliceviolence.us

As a Christian and life-long PK, The Forge on Netflix was insufferable, i.e., terrible. I hit fastforward to the end so that I could rate it as "don't send me this stuff" anymore.
watching a christian devotional movie being screened at my parent’s church and not only is this script terrible but a key, late film plot point is a bunch of warehouse workers eagerly taking on a 24-hour shift with no additional pay just so their boss can get a new contract

When he was in the Navy, Jimmy Carter’s submarine was once docked in Bermuda. Some British officers invited only the white crew members to a cocktail party or something like that, and Carter said that if the crewmen of color weren’t invited then nobody was going. This was in the 1950s.
