I'm sharing this late, but it was one of the best conferences I've been fortunate enough to participate in a long while. All thanks to Eric and @reillysteel.bsky.social for providing a forum for such stimulating conversations on business, law, and politics!
We’ll have presentations and comments from a bunch of fantastic people including Lisa Fairfax, Jeffrey Gordon, Dorothy Lund, Mark Roe, @zhaoliresearch.bsky.social, Jan Stuckatz, Eric Talley, Luigi Zingales, @nolanmc.bsky.social, Lev Menand, Matteo Gatti, Bruce Kogut, Syrena Shirley, and myself.

1/n I spent 40 minutes reading this interview with Marc Andreessen, and it was worth every minute.

There are many interesting quotes about business and politics, but a few stood out given my research focus:

Even though I have had to table my research on "scam PACs" for the past couple of years, I am honored but also saddened that it remains relevant today, as I was quoted in this latest piece on scammers soliciting pro-law enforcement campaign donors. www.levernews.com/are-pro-poli...
Are Pro-Police Scammers Campaigning For Your Cash?
Political action committees claiming to raise money for law enforcement are actually netting millions for an alleged fraud king, while Congress refuses to act.

Interest groups organizational maintenance has fallen by the wayside in the past few decades; we have a few articles by Walker and Rothenberg from the 1980s-1990s and then a big dropoff.

Some enterprising grad students could make a name for themselves by reinvigorating this line of work.

Hi folks! Org Science will shut down submissions from 11:59PM EST Dec. 17 to Jan. 4. This will give a much-needed break to the INFORMS staff and to the volunteer editors and reviewers who put so much effort into the journal. Reviewers and editors should still be able to work, but no expectations!!!

I may be missing something obvious, but do we have a good formal model of preemption laws?

Standard pivotal politics models do not seem to capture the one-upper-government-to-many-lower-governments dynamic, or differences in legislative priorities.

Relatedly, for talks by external speakers at your department, take notes for the speaker (esp. any questions or comments from the audience) and offer to share them with said speaker afterwards. A great way to both build rapport with outside scholars and get more out of attending talks.
A hack when you're a super shy student from average program unable to talk to professors at conferences is to send email questions a few days ahead.

Often, professor will respond saying how well they cut through the core of the issue & do you want to me to discuss them during conference
