A family grave at Wauchope, #Langholm in #Scotland. Contains details of my family from 1786 to 1930 #priceless. Hope it is still standing, it's quite few years since I visited.

It's almost like the enumerator is taunting us .... today I'm trying to sort out a complicated family in the 1851 census and so very helpfully the key person in the household is just noted as a "Relative".

Still - who wants #Genealogy to be easy ..

Nice to see one of my relatives and their unusual combination of occupations get a mention from @chiddickstree.bsky.social.

Top tip: (In England/Wales) Until 1969 birth register entries show no surname for the child - only their forename(s). Entries are INDEXED under the surname of one, or both, parent(s) depending on their marital status.
Understand that, and searching the indexes becomes so much easier.

FreeBMD is a wonderful resource, but they do need to stop saying that things are a "late entry" when in almost every case they are actually re-registrations and there is another, often vital, entry to find - causes so much confusion (and incorrect research)

And found a sad entry already from May 1917 - John Eccles married my grandmother's sister whilst on leave in 1915, and they had just a few days together before he travelled to France. A son he never got to see, born in 1916, was my godfather.

Doesn't sound like much of a house to visit .... #Blackburn very close to where I grew up (1840s).

Interesting antique shop find whilst browsing today. A 3 lock parish chest, claimed to be from St Cuthbert's #BurtonUponTrent, but I think may possibly be from #BurtonFleming in #Yorkshire. Only £445 ( I didn't buy it).

I recently got asked what is meant by "Parish Chest" records and were they really kept in a chest.....so here is a proper parish chest from one of my ancestral churches ( All Hallows, Mitton, #Lancashire)
