Estimated number of people who could die within a year without American foreign aid for:

H.I.V. prevention and treatment: 1,650,000

Vaccines: 500,000

Food aid: 550,000

Malaria prevention: 290,000

Tuberculosis prevention: 310,000

A journey through the front lines of global poverty shows that when the world’s richest men slash aid for the world’s poorest children, the result is sickness, starvation and death.

Increasing and increasingly absurd and harmful persecution of climate science. We must take note of all these actions and hold the government to account.

OK, seriously, Dr. Kate Calvin is one of the best, most well rounded climate scientists alive. She is the current co-chair of IPCC WGIII AR7, and a fabulous leader. Eliminating her current position as Chief Scientist at NASA is not just a shot in the foot, but an amputation. @ipcc.bsky.social
Breaking news: NASA announced today it will eliminate its Office of the Chief Scientist, along with offices advising the agency on technology, strategy, and coordinating its diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts. scim.ag/3Ft8Xza

Claude Malhuret - a member of the French Senate, speaking on Ukraine and how the United States: "has become the court of Nero"

I've subtitled the video quickly from French to English (sorry quick grammatical to get it out)

A powerful message of how the world sees that the US cannot be trusted

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts.

Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

Agreed. The Red Cross Climate Center does a good job integrating social science in DRM. There is scope for more work in this area.
The role of social science in natural catastrophe assessment remains underutilized. Blending pure science with a better understanding of human behavior should be a layup in communicating / planning for risk scenarios.
