OrcaLab's network of cameras and hydrophones have allowed me to see humpbacks and orca in the wild from across the world.

Today a humpback was seen bubblenet feeding right in front of the cameras!

Humpback Whales!
If you haven't seen a Humpback Whale swimming off the Sussex Coast recently, I guess, like me, most of you have heard about it. I've seen...

A resident wild bottlenose dolphin at the Isle of Portland, near Weymouth.

Screencaps from a video I took as this huge bottlenose decided it wanted to say hello.

This is the first time I've seen a bottlenose in person and for it to decide to swim right over to me was magical.

Last week I was out at sea, on a voyage to help collect transect survey data with Sussex Dolphin Project and Plymouth Uni.

On board Take The Helm, the university's research vessel, we scouted the coastal Channel for cetaceans and sea birds.

A truly incredible experience, and yes, we saw dolphins!

It was so exciting to see these #two orcas swimming in Resurrection Bay, Alaska. Three more joined the group about one minute after this.

🐳 Killer whales use tools for grooming

A new study finds wild orcas fashion kelp tools for social grooming. This may be the first case of marine mammals using tools to benefit two individuals at once.

Yesterday we were lucky enough to be on scene when the T49As and T123s met up in the Strait of Georgia. Sometimes meet-ups are anticlimactic, but yesterday, it was a party!

It was fun to see everyone split off: the moms, the boys, the kids...everyone surface active!

Our 'Ultimate Shetland' group enjoyed a fabulous encounter with Orcas yesterday in the east Mainland of Shetland. The grouping comprised the '65s' (including the huge bull 'Busta') and three of the 27s pod. Enjoy these excellent pics by Hannah Loughnane. 🖤🤍

Before, I believed that the sea near my home was barren of life. Full of shipping tankers, pleasure yachts and not much else. These past few years have shown me I was wrong. With humpbacks and dolphins spotted regularly this year, I look forward to helping out where I can - Looking out to sea.

Last year was the first time I saw orca in the wild. From great distance, I watched 062 Hulk and 155 Knott breathe across the horizon. This year, I woke up to find the 169s in a pool of sunlight right outside my hotel window. They were moving as if at play. An incredible moment. #OrcaWatch2025
