It's hump(back) day! This is Freckles breaching near Telegraph Cove, BC. She was being particularly active on this October day - breaching over and over again! Freckles has little white marks on her back which is how she got her name.

This is CA140B Louise with her kid, CA140B2 Bee, in Monterey Bay. Orcas are matriarchal creatures. Depending on population, some kids may stay with mom for life.

This is J19 Shachi and I'm hopeful she brings you a smile this morning! Shachi is an endangered Southern Resident orca. She was born in 1979 and she is one of the matriarchs of J Pod. She is often seen in front of the pod leading her family.

It's hump(back) day! There's absolutely nothing to prepare you for the awe you feel seeing a 50 foot whale leap out of the water. They are so big at around 35 tons, it sounds like a fire cracker going off when they land on the surface.
