Christina Burkenroad didn't have the same advantages of her high school teammates.

She was worried about what she could eat, worried about where she could sleep. But that didn't stop the young San Diegan from dreaming.

Soccer saved the future Mexican star.

Soccer as sanctuary: How the beautiful game saved Liga MX Femenil star Christina Burkenroad
Christina Burkenroad had a turbulent childhood, at times sleeping in the family car, but her love of soccer got her through to the top of the sport.

Linking back to this article because lol Gil Mora scored a panenka tonight that put Xolos up 2-1 in a Liga MX playoff game
"This kid could definitely be a Champions League-level player in the future"

Meet 16-year-old Mexican wonderkid Gilberto Mora, one of the most exciting young players in world soccer and a possible savior for El Tri at the World Cup.

Introducing Gilberto Mora, 16, Mexico's great hope for the 2026 World Cup
Gilberto Mora is one of the most exciting talents that Mexico has produced in the last few years, as the teenager will now look to live up to that hype at the World Cup.

"It'd be like the city of Salinas qualifying for the World Cup," said Cesar, excitedly talking about Curacao for a little too long to his very patient wife late on a Tuesday night

Mexico since winning the Gold Cup:
-Draw
-Draw
-Loss
-Draw
-Draw
-Loss

😬
El Tri can fire Vasco tomorrow and add a new manager like Jardine, and the change will be immediate. That’s the nature of El Tri. I don’t see how this improves with Aguirre in charged.

I went to Curacao in 2019 & wrote a Goal USA story in which the great vibes of the retrofitted school bus the team uses to get around the island was the big star.

Getting to the Gold Cup was the big deal then. Now, Curacao is into the World Cup. Incredible.

How was the 1st half of Mexico v Paraguay? Stats pointing to Mexico with more possession and a dangerous opportunity but Paraguay with more shots?

Makes sense that a crunching tackle would then lead to another big moment for Freeman at an NFL stadium

Our 2nd annual @espn.com anonymous #NWSL general manager survey is here, and the clearest trend from hours of interviews over the past two months is what's now playing out: concern about the limitations of the salary cap, and the inability to retain and attract the world's top players (inc. #USWNT).
NWSL GM survey: Is the salary cap a problem? Are teams still breaking rules?

El Tri looked better, but that's still a 0-0 for Aguirre and crew
November 16, 2025 at 3:09 AM
Doesn't seem serious, but something for San Diego fans to keep an eye on. Chucky Lozano brought off after an injury. But for El Tri, now another big opportunity for Gil Mora.
November 16, 2025 at 1:53 AM
lol, only El Tri fans, booing your own goalkeeper every time he touches the ball because he's not the local LMX goalkeeper that's on the bench

At the very least, gotta watch the Mexico game for seeing the new kits alone

Even though I'm still not sure how I feel about Arfsten --- his decision-making was a bit off in the final minutes --- I keep being impressed with him with each passing game. Seems to be growing in confidence and growing in significance to the USMNT.

FT: #usmnt 2-1 Paraguay. Deserved win for the U.S., which cranked up the pressure in the second half & finally broke through courtesy of Balogun's goal. Thought pressure by Tessmann and Aaronson was vital. All this while missing a lot of first choice players. A bit shaky at the end but US prevails.
November 16, 2025 at 12:04 AM
Fairly physical 1st half, but still even between U.S. and Paraguay. USMNT need to get Balo more involved.

Some pre-game reading ahead of Roldan's start today
"I don't want to be known, especially with the national team, known as just a player that is known for his off-the-field stuff"

"I want to be known for winning games...I want to be on the field kicking a player"

Very specific non-soccer post, but it was annoying me for the longest time that Outlook wasn't sending scheduled emails.

Someone on reddit recommended scheduling an email for a future date (so to myself in 2028 lol) and, somehow, voila, all other scheduled emails behind it are now going through
