Oh hey it's a new year! With the start of 2026, here's a thread on my favorite articles that I worked on in 2025.

Let's start with this one on Monterrey's Christina Burkenroad, who is one of the most inspiring figures in North American women's soccer

bsky.app/profile/cesa...
Christina Burkenroad didn't have the same advantages of her high school teammates.

She was worried about what she could eat, worried about where she could sleep. But that didn't stop the young San Diegan from dreaming.

Soccer saved the future Mexican star.

Christina Burkenroad had a turbulent childhood, at times sleeping in the family car, but her love of soccer got her through to the top of the sport.

Another remarkable milestone for San Diego FC.

Even if you rate Pumas as a fading force, a huge gap remains between the clubs in terms of experience and pedigree - tho you'd never know it by the skill and composure SDFC showed to pull off the upset.

Not sure how much longer Efrain will get with Pumas after that. Hasn't changed their status as a fading giant.

As for SD, a much, much more difficult test ahead against Toluca. Had San Diego as favorites against Pumas --- that won't be the case in the next round.

TIL that the son of Mexican icon Jorge Campos, Antonio Campos, has signed with the CPL's Inter Toronto. Also a goalkeeper, just like his dad.

If that's not enough, his full name is Allen Iverson Rojas.

Mexican giants that have seen better days, meet up-and-coming MLS side.

Still the 2nd leg to go in Mexico City, but San Diego with a sizeable advantage (and without Chucky) through the 4-1 win. Pumas giving too much respect tonight.

Also Gignac unexpectedly recommended a romantic drama called Sullivan's Crossing that I've literally never heard of.

Unfortunately, he found no goalscoring love tonight against Hamilton Forge

The legend Nahuel Guzman who also recently recommended Detective Pikachu as one of his latest in-flight watches
I had the volume down so not sure if the broadcast provided some explanation, but I enjoy the idea of Nahuel Guzman starting his timewasting schtick on (heavily layered) referee Armando Villarreal with a net quibble in the [checks clock] FIRST MINUTE of Forge-Tigres on this icy night in Hamilton.

and Ledezma has just scored minutes after this post lol

It's pretty impressive how quickly Richy Ledezma has gone from new Chivas signing to indispensable member of the club XI that's now in the running for a Mexico call-up to the World Cup

World Cup prep for the USMNT's MLS players doesn't just begin in the preseason.

Whether it be through specialized training or at parks back home with friends, there was extra offseason work.

Will it secure call-ups? Can it help lift the USMNT this summer?

@ OptaDog

This now marks back-to-back years in which at least one dog has been present at NWSL Media Day following the adoption agency dropping by in 2025. Will 2027 mark a three-peat? Paw-fection.
spotted at NWSL Media Day in Los Angels — the Westin Bonaventure’s mascot (appropriately named Westin)

the hotel adopted him after someone left him in a closet four years ago

he is not an actor even though there have been many inquiries, also Avery Patterson adores him
