sat down with Jurgen Klopp for 45 minutes as he told me about why he doesn’t miss coaching at all, work-life balance, why a Saturday in Central Park is better than a loss at Selhurst Park and more

a lot of great nuggets in this one, I highly recommend reading it

Jurgen Klopp loves life after coaching, doesn't plan on coming back: 'I miss nothing, I enjoy what I'm doing'
Klopp, now the head of global soccer at Red Bull, has a job that satisfies his coaching itch -- without the pressures of bearing '1,000% responsibility' for results

it'd be wild to argue this squad can't be coached better but the ceiling isn't significantly higher than this!

not that Thomas Frank has done himself a single favor since taking the Tottenham job, but it really is remarkable to see the impact several years of poor squad building can have on a good team - there's not a lot this team does well and there are very few redeeming qualities

okay this explains a lot (and is a very fun choice from the ISU)!
Throwback season, actually! And it was the ISU, not IOC.

don't know if this is the norm for ice dance but I will say that I really enjoyed the banishment of wordless, indistinguishable ballads in today's qualifiers

Did the IOC decide it was Throwback Night or something?
a selection of songs that will be used in the today's ice dance competition at the Winter Olympics, where competitors are required to use "music of the 1990s" for their rhythm dance programs

the curling mixed doubles semifinal had everything — suspense, drama, a heart rate monitor on an athlete’s family member for broadcast purposes, the commentators basically saying the pro-Italy crowd had no clue what they were cheering for

Well done, Bad Bunny.

We need a “how they did it” interview with the lead cameraman and planners behind this halftime show ASAP. That was one of the most impressive logistical accomplishments I’ve ever seen

Super Bowl halftime performers love a special appearance like the people who made Bollywood movies in the late ‘90s (complimentary)

and to think it could've been even sillier if the VAR had taken comedic value into their decision making, you hate to see it

Crowd volume turned down and the announcers talking over the United States team during the whole walk-in, but there were definitely some audible boos from the crowd at the San Siro.

Points of fact.

Shaun White has two modes, and two modes only, during the Parade of Athletes

1. “I’ve been to that country!,” then says something vague about the people and the culture

2. “I haven’t been to that country but I’d like to!,” then says something vague about the people and the culture

(that said - there's a question Guardiola needs to answer at some point about where his paychecks come from)

I find it so fascinating that someone from outside the U.S. feels so comfortable talking about this than the many American athletes who have (disappointingly) opted out of saying anything at all (even if Pep Guardiola is the exception rather than the rule)
Pep Guardiola used a news conference to speak out on a range of humanitarian issues, including calling the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by U.S. federal agents indefensible and again expressing his support for Palestinians.

More from Sam Lee & @lukebosher.bsky.social
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaks out on Minnesota killings, Palestine in news conference
“Humanity is better than ever in terms of possibilities, but still right now we kill each other, for what?” Guardiola said.

"under my leadership, our newspaper has lost readers and subscribers at record rates. this shows that I was correct about what was wrong with the newspaper."
Notable bits from this email:
- WaPo search has declined by half in three years
- Daily story output has "substantially fallen" in the last five years
- Murray argues: "we too often write from one perspective, for one slice of the audience."

Crestfallen and f$&@ furious about the closure as we know it of @postsports.bsky.social by an indifferent, compromised owner and a failing publisher — a dept of Povich and Boswell, Wilbon and Kornheiser, Gildea and Sheinin, of poets, authors, Hall of Famers and Pulitzer finalists. A terrible day.

the soccer venues for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 are official and they’re … all over the place

late stages (including men’s final on July 28 and women’s final on July 29) will take place at the Rose Bowl but before then, games will be scattered from coast to coast
