Today’s shooting at Florida State is far from the first mass shooting to take place in Tallahassee, even at the university itself, in recent memory. I was in high school when there was a mass shooting at FSU’s library in 2014. In 2018, another mass shooter claimed innocent lives at a yoga studio.

I gave a talk at the Illinois Junior Classical League state convention and brought books, because as a nerdy 16 year old someone handing me a book of Greek plays was the dream. The moment I passed out the first book these kids were SCREAMING is this what being a rock star feels like?
