I'm still exploring how common law and Māori law work together within this distinct legal system. It's so complicated, with cultural details and various pathways of legal reasoning.

Writing my research paper on climate displacement in New Zealand using certain critical theories feels both overwhelmingly challenging and satisfying at the same time. The key is I need to get the first draft done by tomorrow so that I achieve a small win and feel more motivated to finish it.

Stunning. May was brutal for Trump in federal court: 96% loss rate ⚖️. Even GOP-appointed judges have ruled against the admin 72% of the time. District courts are doing their job defending the Constitution. Soon the Supreme Court may be the only court unwilling to defend the rule of law.

Fish, both saltwater freshwater, were more than just food but also a form of gift and currency between communities on the coast and on the interior. Coastal people traded dried fish, dried edible seaweed, and shark oil in return for forest products and sometimes forest game. 5/8

Freshwater fishes and rivers and streams, played a big role Māori diet and culture. Weirs were on rives and lakes made to catch lamprey (family Geotriidae); eels (family Anguillidae); southern graylings and smelts(family Retropinnid). 4/8

Fishing was a seasonal activity shaped by the movements and behavior of the various fish species. Coastal fish like tāmure (snapper) tarakihi, pōrae (trumpeter fish), rāwaru or taipua (rock cod), kehe (marble fish) and kumukumu (gurnard) during the spring and summer. 3/8

The fall in power sector emissions came despite surging electricity demand growth

This is the first time on record that clean energy growth has been sufficient to cut into coal power, without the help of weak power demand

Could this be the biggest climate story of the year?

For the first time on record, China's emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand
