Their argument being one of false equivalencies, and my argument being that the government should provide all people with the same rights granted by marriage and marriage should instead be a social ritual, + building any right to marriage equality off Obergefell will fail under this administration.

Point 2 drove me off TikTok. Someone called me a bigot when I critiqued their argument in favor of polyamorous marriage equality. I responded with why their argument was flawed, not their position, (I taught rhetoric for years) and they told me it wasn't that deep. WHY'D YOU CALL ME A BIGOT THEN???

I'm just saying that the culture around it in the US is different. It's much less common now here because it was a diagnosis for only a short while, years ago.

I just cannot imagine how that must have affected parents. I know it did, as there are touching poems, letters, musical works where grieving parents express their sadness. E.g., this Tombeau Robert de Visée wrote for his two daughters, who died in quick succession from a fever
