A truly amazing thing about this piece is the lengths it goes to to avoid referring to any of the DSA council members by name. It is 12 paragraphs in and has name dropped Zohran Mamdani five times before finally printing a quote from “Mitch Green, one of the socialist councilors.”
This was lazy reporting, and the Times would have done better for its audience exploring why so many Portlanders voted in DSA council. Article includes nothing from these voters. Describing Republicans in Portland as an “endangered species” is a choice.

this is why saving any of us means saving all of us. there is nothing being done to people you find "lesser" or "more deserving" that will not inevitably be done to you once they realize it works. you have more in common with the residents of your city's homeless encampments than you do with Elon
