Mississippian. Law nerd. Fund Southern Democrats.
You know what I say: it’s a GREAT idea to hamstring the Mississippi nation Al guard mid-hurricane season. Real big brain stuff happening
“Crime is out of control there, and it’s clear something must be done to combat it," Gov. Tate Reeves said as he deployed 200 Mississippi National Guard soldiers to Washington, D.C., where violent crime rates fell significantly last year.

One of my favorite places in the world, can't wait to see the new digs!
“I’m hoping that they will bring more programs for students, programs for the community … for our young ones that develop their minds & get them going,” Jackson County resident Yolanda Bells said. “In this generation, everything is expanding—you can’t stay stuck. So, to redevelop is a good thing.”

Shit framing. CBA negotiations ARE social activism. These elite athletes are paid pennies on what the men make and get NO merch cut. @wnba.com pay your players what they deserve!
The WNBPA has acknowledged its efforts this season have been more business-minded: particularly the CBA. The current agreement is set to expire after the 2025 season, and players are in the midst of spirited discussions (via @kareemcopeland.bsky.social):
In WNBA, a collective bargaining battle has replaced social activism
The players are seeking better pay in their next CBA and continued negotiations at all-star weekend. They have been quieter than usual on other topics.

Today the GOP justices on the Supreme Court endorsed migrants being sold into slavery.

They'll claim otherwise, but that's the reality — today's decision permits Trump to send people from countries around the world to any global hellhole that accepts a U.S. financial incentive.

There's a real attentional trap that all protest movements face and have faced for a long time. If you pull off protests that are polite and civil, even if large, they will struggle to get coverage. Reporters will dismiss them as not newsworthy.

As someone who lived in a FEMA trailer for a bit after Katrina: fuck this
President Trump said that his administration plans to “wean” states off FEMA assistance after this year’s hurricane season, offering in the most explicit terms yet his plans for states to respond to natural disasters and other emergencies on their own.

See this is what I mean. Mississippi is a state with a 40% Black population. African American candidate Mike Espy garnered nearly 45% of the vote in the 2020 General Election for the U.S. Senate.

Why isn’t there a 10 yr Dem plan for organizing Mississippi? Why concede the state w/a 40% Black pop?
NEW: Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has declared April 2025 as Confederate Heritage Month.

He did so at the behest of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a neo-Confederate organization that espouses “Lost Cause” ideology, which whitewashes the role of slavery in the Civil War. 🧵
