Very shaken by the discovery that Brett Goldstein, Phil Wang, and I are all in the same video. The live show was so incredibly fun and I am so grateful to everyone who came to watch us be silly historians together!

THURSDAY ON TGS! I’m joined by Vanessa Williamson @vanessawilliamson.bsky.social to talk about this former Confederate general, who had three big passions in life: taxes, murder, and racism. Not necessarily in that order.
Let the great tax-pilling begin.

I know romanticizing work is Bad™ but you have to admit this (with Yusef Lateef playing softly in the background) is kind of a vibe.

NOW AVAILABLE! The recording of the first (and probably only) edition of TGS Live: The Worst Wing, featuring professional president-knowers Nicole Hemmer @pastpunditry.bsky.social and Kevin Schultz. What a way to mark a year since The Day That Shall Not Be Named.

Sometimes I’ll say “America is and has always been basically fine with Nazis” and people feel very strongly about that. So here’s an excerpt from a 1976 Yale Daily News letter to the editor, defending a man outed as a former Nazi-employed propagandist

THIS THURSDAY ON TGS: it’s the live show recording you’ve all been clamoring for! I invented a sadistic game to make Prof. Nicole Hemmer @pastpunditry.bsky.social and Prof. Kevin Schultz discuss rubbing Vaseline on presidents. There is a winner but really we all lose in the end. 😌

Literally every day of my life I am so thankful that I get to learn stuff and teach people stuff for a living, and that I get to surround myself with people who want to help me learn and teach stuff. This conversation was in response to me ranting about the history of taxes!!!!

I’ve gotta get more stuff to put out here because this is far too minimalist for my taste.

As a Whitney fellow I get to attend weekly exploratory lunch talks given by the other fellows. I can’t stop thinking about yesterday’s talk by Heather Webb - reading aura & atmosphere into Dante and Boccaccio, in a way that truly delighted everyone in the room.

Tressie McMillan Cottom (@tressiemcphd.bsky.social) absolutely suplexing the Platner tattoo apologists in the NYT today.
My professional life is spent thinking about what makes Americans so quick to shove overt Nazi stuff to the side in favor of political expedience - she gets this exactly right.
