At the very least, after years of pressuring critics to give their faves automatic high scores, it’s a bit rich to get angry at one for doing exactly that.

I shouldn’t *know* the scores of certain games before reviews are even out, but there’s an enforced belief that some series/studios are so inherently good they deserve automatic praise.

Deviation isn’t tolerated, it’s violently mobbed. Going with such a strong flow is easy.

I don’t blame any critic who pulls a few punches to avoid the mob. I’d be shocked if it doesn’t happen - it’s a trivial thing to do compared to threats from unhinged people.

It’s what fans want. They literally attack critics for not pandering to them, not *anticipating* their uniform standards.

I’ve faced some truly disgusting harassment over my reviews. Cyberpunk zealots tried to trigger an epileptic episode in one critic for a single complaint. Another got tons of hate for giving GTAV a nearly perfect score just because she had a few caveats.
