The celebration of Saint Urban de Langres was this week. A Burgundy bishop & patron saint of Dijon, he's one of several (smallish) wine saints. He is said to have hidden from the Christian-persecuting authorities among the vines for several weeks, so his representations often include a grape bunch.

Something fun I saw a while back, and thought I'd repost for #ValentinesDay. Jokes aside, I AM a fan of holidays, observances and patron saints, so I'm gearing up for Saint Tryphon the Pruner on the selfsame 14.02.

I;m furious at the use of the word "grape" to signify that most foul of sexual attacks.

Grape is a fruit. A berry. Millions of people around the world use it to make jam, and jelly, and juice and, most importantly, wine.

As you're trying to bypass SM filters, don't taint people's livelihood.

Jan. 27th is one of 2 (two!) International Port Wine Days. Not my favorite style, but fitting as I review materials about #fortifiedwines ahead of my Winemaking Technologies exam.

Speaking of materials: www.winealign.com/articles/202... & www.winealign.com/articles/202...
are a good written intro.

What caught my eye, while moderating the #winefluent feed that I just launched.
- the difference between #wine aroma and bouquet bsky.app/profile/ried...
- "tight" as a #descriptor for wines bsky.app/profile/blrw...
- New research on why red wine causes headaches theconversation.com/why-does-red...

The meme "Dry January means dry white or dry red" holds true for me, so I resonated with some of the themes in this article: www.nytimes.com/2025/01/14/o...

There is a commercialisation of sobriety and a social contagion, but they are rooted in an unhealthy relationship with drinking, and in fear.

An article on 5 trends to watch has spurred me to make my own (laywoman's) predictions for 2025.

Here's what I think will happen (and I'll take to Substack to detail): 1. Focus on the affordable alternative 2. Portable wine 3. Better bag-in-box.

Stay tuned!
