I feel like I have been silent on social media for so long that it's hard to speak now. I know that bsky is much nicer than twitter but it's still overwhelming.

I co chaired The Consensus Statement for Personality Disorder years ago with Sir Norman Lamb Nothing much has changed. Maybe more therapy but still the same stigma. This type of story has been repeated by survivors over the years mainly by women ..ditch the diagnosis
Personality disorder patients let down by 'misleading' diagnosis
Jessica Matthews was 21 when she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

Do you think a jury would be less likely to sympathise with a woman if they are told she has an ‘emotionally unstable personality disorder’?

You are right.

That is what evidence shows us.

That is why we need labels that scream ‘believe her’.

This might not be a causal thing but I've held group space for suicidal people to cry and talk and be suicidal on 230 occasions, I have not asked a single one if they can keep themselves 'safe' and AFAIK, they are all alive. 'Can you keep yourself safe for 3 months?' is a ludicrous question.
This was a follow up call about basically discharging her because she couldn't be sure she could keep herself safe for 3 months. But they also changed some of what they'd said. There was absolutely no regard for autistic ways of communicating, even though I explained it to them!

The average age of death for homeless people in the UK is 47 for men and 43 for women, compared to 79.5 for men and 83.1 for women in the general population.

Makes you proud to be British, eh?

If like me you don't find this acceptable, consider donating to Shelter UK.

You too will be a patient one day.

Remember that.

With every word you speak, every look you give and every standard you accept, remember that.

We are so excited to share this animation produced by Kat Hudson on camera based surveillance in psychiatric wards. Surveillance is not safety! Huge thanks to @nsunnews.bsky.social for making this possible

So my local mental health NHS trust uses its millions not for nurses but coroners lawyers, to argue for deaths not to receive a suicide verdict.

This mental health trust uses these lawyers to create legal submissions for coroners court before long-term service users die.
