I love school visits. I love meeting readers and I know it’s a massive privilege to have my books in classrooms. I did a lovely one this week at Grey Coat Hospital. But remind me to just use cast iron contacts or go through an agency.

For the past year, I've been recommending JOURNEY BACK TO FREEDOM: THE OLAUDAH EQUIANO STORY by @catwrote.bsky.social to everyone. You could read this at any age and get something from it - but if you know the original text, it's absolutely mindblowing!

I write children’s books because I believe they're the most important books of all. Yet there are so few spaces where they're taken seriously, championed & celebrated. So I was thrilled when The Week Jr started these new awards - and then Tyger won one last night!!!

ZEN IN THE ART OF WRITING is one of the best books I've ever read on writing - I'd recommend it to anyone. My other favourites include BIRD BY BIRD by Anne Lammott, which is brilliant on the emotional experience of writing; and STEERING THE CRAFT by Ursula Le Guin, which is just brilliant!
I am absolutely loving Ray Bradbury's Zen in the Art of Writing. A great book on enthusiasm and creativity.

I’m just a girl, standing in front of the entire publishing industry, saying please stop making hardbacks because they are too spendy and also too heavy for my feeble wrists. (i.e. I am desperate to read The Bee Sting but arthritis and economics say no)

THIS IS SO TRUE. Word of mouth is the dream, it really is.
It is really hard being a writer these days. The industry is getting tougher all the time. You can REALLY help authors and books you love by talking about them. Word of mouth is real magic, your voice matters, it's never too small. Share your enthusiasm for books you love. And THANK YOU.

SOA members! There are 4 places going on the Management Committee this year (including mine, as my term ends in January). So please, don’t forget to vote before October 25th. We need as many members to vote as possible in order to ensure maximum representation. Your voice matters. Use it!
