I just finished this book from Moudhy Al-Rashid, which I discovered through Booksky. The author describes the life of people, from the mightier to the most humble, that lived in ancient Mesopotamia as great kings and civilisations succeeded one another. A very knowledgeable and accessible book.

I am so happy! After 15 years during which deers and porcupines destroyed my plum trees leaving only one or two plums for our consumption, I had the idea to install a chime nearby. The sound is pleasant and effective to frighten them. Here is my first harvest. And the Damas plum trees look promising!

If you go to Paris, many will advise you, you must go to the Louvre; but then, if you go to Paris, as nearly as many will advise you, you must not go to the Louvre.

Jose Manuel Grandío braves below-zero temperatures to witness a stoat jumping high into the air above the snow.

When he spotted this stoat jumping mid-air on the last day of his trip, he saw this as an ‘expression of exuberance’ as the small mammal hurled itself about in a fresh fall of snow.

I recommend Martin Walker’s Bruno Chief of Police mystery novels. They take place in Dordogne, a region he knows very well and contain a vivid description of the inhabitant’s everyday life. M. Walker is a specialist in geopolitics and he uses this knowledge to craft his intrigues.

As you can see in this mosaic, young boys are playing with tiny chariots. In another mosaic of the same villa, little girls are picking up flowers.
For #MosaicMonday this week we're at Villa Romana del Casale!

In the antechamber of the apsidal hall, we have this mosaic of A 2-horse chariot race where the chariots are drawn by birds and driven by children belonging to the four factions of the Circus.
