Hey @damienowens.bsky.social meant to say this before but I read this recently, and LOVED it. First time in years I read a book in one sitting.

I showed it to the fox on my deck, he said he prefers non-fiction

#booksof2025 #5 this was funny, honest, and in places remarkably prescient. Very enjoyable.

#booksof2025 #4 this was just beautiful. Sad, funny, well written, it was a joy. Hints of Flann O’Brien in some of the humour, other passages so lovely I had to read them again. Loved it.

#booksof2025 #3 Clever and entertaining, but didn’t really believe the plot and forgot the whole thing the instant I finished it. Still worth a read though.

#booksof2025 #1 Tom Sharpe’s Wilt. Read this first as a teenager and a lot of the sarcasm and satire passed me by. Funny, but not funny enough to make me hunt down the others.

#booksof2024 #40 this was good, but not the book to end all books that the reviews suggested. I enjoyed it, but it’s not a keeper.

#booksof2024 #39 the fifth in the Aubrey-Maturin series. Utterly immersive (what a pun) as usual. A peculiar story, but you read them for the descriptive passages as much as for the tale.

#booksof2024 #37 great stories, well told. Expected darker, though, given the title.

#booksof2024 #36 this was great. Lots of examination of the history of the intricacies of Irish rugby, class, religion, politics etc.

Had the joy of hearing and meeting one of my favourite authors this evening, Nassim Nicolas Taleb.
