#Denisovan News It appears that the Harbin 'Dragon Man' (formerly "Homo longi") is a Denisovan (!), based on ancient proteins extracted from the skull, confirming previous comparative studies. What does this mean? We may finally have the first nearly complete Denisovan skull.

First palaeontology archaeological discovery of the submerged Sundaland, from the dredged sand used in the Madura Strait artificial island project (Java island, Indonesia), where archaeologists discovered fossils. Soon to be published. The location is near a Pleistocene submerged lake and river.

Ateneo de Manila researchers are pointing to the large evidence of Pleistocene sea navigation in Wallacea (Island SE Asia). For years archaeologists thought early migrations were only possible due to accidental island hopping during low sea levels.

String-figures, a traditional practice across continents, which may have deep roots, and could be interpreted as an early form of mathematical thinking in human evolution. In Indonesia, Oceanian string figures are found in parts of Papua, such as Yapen.

My highlights from the hominid fossils at the National Museum of Indonesia: a sea shell from Trinil (500,000 years old) with zigzag markings that appear to be a deliberate pattern made by Herectus.
