Lisa Kelly told me to read this book and I know enough to listen to her. 40 pages in and my thinking is altered. Mandatory one for the legal profession: profs, students, judges alike.

I am so grateful to those who believed in my vision for an Indigenous Law Clinic in Kingston. Thank you to The Law Foundation of Ontario for funding the first steps for this project, and to Queen's Law for your sincere partnership.

Rest in peace Dan 💔 You touched so, so many people with your fearless and determined advocacy.

I will never forget the laughter and words of wisdom sitting at your kitchen table.

May we all strive to be the change you were in the world.
British Columbia has lost an incredible advocate and a fighter for justice in the passing of Dan Coulter. We will keep Dan and his family in our hearts and remember him in the work that we do.

The Supreme Court ruled there is underfunding of police services in a northern Quebec First Nation.

The president of the First Nations Chiefs of Police hopes governments will now negotiate better funding.

That's on this episode of Nation to Nation.

More and more, municipal governments, public servants and citizens are signalling the need for clarity on the scope of the notwithstanding clause. All I want for Christmas this year is a SCC s. 33 Reference case.

Debates on this Bill will be so crucial to getting solutions right - making sure laws to address key issues also make room for solutions to other issues and address unintended consequences or gaps that may result. Otherwise, we risk playing political Whack-a-Mole. Some tradeoffs may not be worth it.

Lots to unpack on over-breadth & constitutionality of “jail not bail” reform. Also: public confidence in the admin. of justice and restricting judicial discretion that allows for consideration of these issues. With the rise in s. 33, a SCC review of the notwithstanding clause’s scope may be timely.

A live issue I had the privilege of learning about from Māori legal & judicial actors last week at CIAJ’s Indigenous Justice Symposium. To me, this haka serves as a powerful reminder of why we must be unapologetic in our work to uphold the high standards of the law, for all it purports to serve.

While Admin law is not my usual jam, it was admittedly exciting to see the cliffhanger resolved in this case.
