Bsky & Sub are just where I leak all my WIPs and trade secrets. I’m running naked thru a ghost town.

Remember that time artists came here for like 1 week in Jan/Feb and then didn’t know what to do without a grid? 🫠

Some 40 years ago, a real-estate agent with an eccentric sense of style and a knack for fostering community bought a building in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. In the years that followed, she rented out the units to artists of all stripes.

I said to my friend just yesterday that I was craving a new story by Ottessa, she is my favorite author to read in the summer. Then I logged on here. So blessed 🫡
“It was immensely boring to be with my mother. After dinner, she went to bed to listen to the radio. She liked only very solemn, funereal church music.” A new short story by Ottessa Moshfegh.
“The Comedian,” by Ottessa Moshfegh
He was nothing and nobody, and nobody cared, and he thought that everyone was watching him, that even I was watching him.

My immediate thoughts on the most monstrous, immoral piece of legislation I’ve ever voted on in the Senate.

But I’m not done fighting. I know you aren’t either.

say it again:

4 million people work in higher ed, the largest employer in 10 states, second largest employer in 10 more, and in 60 of the 100 biggest cities

ROI for NIH and NSF for local economies is conservatively 4x, often close to 10x

demolishing higher education is economic sabotage
There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university.

University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.
