And In this scene from The Queen, Victoria Hamilton says 'vice provost', not 'vice promise'. 'Vice Provost of Eton College' was correctly spelt half a minute earlier in that scene.

It's not just me, right, who finds these basic ASR errors distracting and annoying?

I am so, so OVER short videos w/ basic subtitle transcription errors.

Michael Rooker says 'robbing that camp BLIND'.

Would it kill posters to proofread? Is there some deep technical reason why it's impossible to correct subtitles in vertical video?

For International Day for Audiovisual Heritage (yay!📽️), I am honoring some distinguished subtitlers through their on-screen credits. Without which, etc....

Mai Harris gets two credits because she is awesome & subtitled most foreign films that screened in UK 1934-1960s... #filmtranslationhistory

I saw this yesterday and liked it; all leads good but the two performances that really knocked my socks off were Jennifer Ehle as Laura Madden and Andre Braugher as Dean Baquet. #awesomeacting

1970s attitudes to the subtitles of the time. Here's that Munster Express reviewer again: #filmtranslationhistory

To be fair, films were much less densely subtitled back then, and he wasn't the only person complaining...

Irish language use in the media is very different now, but here is a 1978 reaction by a journalist in the Munster Express to the idea that Irish language subtitles could be put on old films: #filmtranslationhistory
