Historian of Canada, gender, politics, graphic satire. Writing (apparently interminably) about Grip magazine.
I hope someone sees the connection between this and my last post. We need to talk a lot more about our obsession with political father figures.

I hadn’t seen an American example of the romance allegory!

This sucks. I hope you’ll be able to find a work around

Yes! Which is why I’ve been working on a book about these for over a decade 😜

Unfortunately there are much creepier ones

Agreed

I know this sort of thing is a joke but you can imagine how deeply hurtful it is for Albertans
March 5, 2025 at 3:32 PM
Yup I hear you. If it’s staring down the barrel of a gun, we’re all effed. But I really don’t think Albertans are about to capitulate in advance.

I really don’t think that would work. Are there nutjobs and do they belong to the UCP? Yes. The rest of the province seems pretty united against Trump. Even the red necks are patriots. And DS’s power is precarious rn. I know it’s easy to dunk on AB but pls don’t paint us all with one brush. 🙏

Yup I think it’s gonna feel like we’ve been clobbered

I think it might be because it’s so difficult to do. A literal description of a political cartoon is virtually meaningless (and possibly really misleading) without the visual context. I’m planning to post some and I don’t quite know how to do it. Advice?
