As a financial advisor, I think it is my responsibility to help clients navigate our difficult world and to help make financial decisions that respect their values, their needs, and vision of a happy life.

We’re all trying to navigate this world and by having clear communication as spouses, parents, colleagues, managers and as individuals ; we can reduce the frictions that come with building a better society for everyone.

And this is a legacy of PATRIARCHY, a system that has existed for milennia and that makes it difficult for us to decouple our definitions of success, happiness, leadership, etc from our genders.

There's even a phenomenon called the GLASS ESCALATOR : men climb the career ladder faster than women in Women-dominated industries.

And to varying degrees depending on your society, Capitalism will often exacerbate these unequal results.

Inequality is a FEATURE, not a bug.

While Feminism has opened the doors for many women to access careers and positions of leadership traditionally held by men, there are still unequal results when it comes to who gets promoted and how much do they get paid.

I BELIEVE that much of this misplaced resentment is due to the fact that we live in a society where by definition, NOBODY CAN HAVE IT ALL: Capitalism.

CAPITALISM is a system that ensures some level of inequality. Someone has to win and someone has to lose.

But freedom does come with a price:

When women entered the workforce in large numbers, the happiness levels of women dropped. They have since largely recovered.
August 28, 2025 at 11:16 AM
...do the same thing as men.

= Modern woman™

What Feminism has actually done is that it ALLOWS women to have the freedom to choose what THEY WANT in life.
August 28, 2025 at 11:15 AM
But Feminism NEVER made that promise.

In some conversations I’ve had with women who echo this sentiment, they FEEL that Feminism means…

1️⃣ Women MUST have a career ➕

2️⃣ Women MUST be AMAZING parents ➕

3️⃣ Women MUST be 100% able to...

3️⃣ Always be closing. This is what I said to my surgeon when I woke up and saw the wound he stitched up after surgery.

1️⃣ Have disability insurance policy.
You might need it sooner than you think.
2️⃣ Every crisis is an opportunity.
So, never pass up the opportunity to promote your products and/or services.

Very few of advisors ever really provide any advice. Just product sales. And even when the client needed a product--a mortgage--they simply declined to even look into the financials, which would have revealed information that could ultimately help the client.
August 19, 2025 at 10:48 PM
3️⃣The "advisor" relationship this client had was with an insurance agent, which had recommended a Critical illness policy--to someone who does not really need it. Never did they ask about the client's total financial picture. 😠
August 19, 2025 at 10:47 PM
2️⃣Never did the client's long-term tax preparer, ask about the dividends (which were 100% taxable) and suggest maybe moving them into RRSPs or TFSAs, nor to recommend speaking with an advisor.
August 19, 2025 at 10:47 PM
Never did they seem to go into any detail about her assets, especially about the source of dividends--which should have happened during multiple mortgage renewals.
August 19, 2025 at 10:46 PM
Here's what REALLY ANNOYED ME :

1️⃣The client had a long-term relationship with her bank for her mortgage and small RRSP account.

"Do you know what they are?"
"No. I just receive these cheques and I cash them"

After a 8 hours of reading endless documents, I discovered they held a not-so-insignificant amount of shares in limited partnerships and stocks. Just shy of ONE MILLION DOLLARS!💵
August 19, 2025 at 10:45 PM
This partially had been contributing to the tax debt. Because the client was not withholding anything. Not to mention, these dividends were coming directly from payor.

"What is this from?" I asked.
"Oh, something I inherited from my grandfather" she replied.

Normally, you could refinance your mortgage to access equity. Being in retired, nobody wants to lend money to someone who can't pay it back! ❌

When analyzing tax documents, I noticed there were tax slips for dividends...nothing massive. but, $10k+ every year. 🤔
August 19, 2025 at 10:45 PM
But they didn't know they were a millionaires until I helped them.

Not long ago, a young woman reached out to ask for help in getting her retired mother out from a tough situation. This woman had tax debt and all her wealth was trapped in her home. 💸
