300,000 Black women have left the labor market in a three month period this year, and it's estimated that the unemployment rate for Black women is as high as ten percent but none of this is getting much traction. So, I wrote about it on my blog.

From “Support Black women” to crickets | Shay Stewart-Bouley
For the better part of a decade, it was common to see hashtags and think-pieces admonishing people to support Black women and to trust Black women, but in the last few years, as the post George Floyd ...

I haven't seen many writing spiders the last couple years, and was delighted to see a female living in a cast iron plant on our porch. I was even more delighted to see the much smaller male when I got close enough for pics.

HUGE NEWS.

The judge in the case where 21 state attorneys generals sued the Trump administration over dismantling the IMLS just issued an injunction in favor of the plaintiffs. This is good news & the judge further indicates that the plaintiffs have a STRONG case here.

The Latest from the Institute of Museum and Library Services
A temporary restraining order halts further dismantling of the only federal agency for libraries, but the 2026 federal budget calls for eliminating the IMLS completely.

Mini review: Whalefall by Daniel Kraus.

Contrary to the cover copy, not a survival thriller. It's a meditation on death and what we owe the dying, what fathers owe us, and what we owe them, if anything. A damaged teenager has to get eaten by a whale to sort that out for himself.

I've seen a lot of posts lately saying that to support a library, you should get a card. Other things you can do:

1. Be promiscuous in using that card
2. Go to board meetings
3. Join the Friends
4. Demand the books that represent you, you can challenge absent books as much as present ones
5. Donate

Mini-review: Leather & Lark by Brynne Weaver

A musician and a "cleaner" get married to save his life and track down a different, eviler killer.

Quality banter and emotional connection between the leads. The revenge fantasy premise is cathartic and in no way parallel to current events.
