Here he lies, buried, still
Ever growing younger
He was twenty, barely twenty
When they set him to his task
To lead his team of younger still
Against the nest on Mindanao
He’d trained for months
But died that day
And sadder still, he’s slain in June
A few more months the war was won

Bill W. described our problem this way: “Condemned to drink by the obsession; condemned to die by the allergy.”

Historically, religion largely failed in attempts to deal with alcoholism. Medicine failed. Psychology failed. According to Bill W., AA succeeded due to the influence of all three in the development of the 12 Steps.

Had maybe the most disturbing drunk dream I’ve ever had. No actual drinking in it, but I came out of a blackout to discover that I had apparently committed bloody murder. Yet I was not actually much disturbed because I think I knew I was dreaming.

Struggling? Let the struggle motivate you, make you stronger, more resilient, and more useful; give you experience, wisdom, compassion and insight; build your skills and prepare you for the future. Or let it drag you down.

We are so smart, we specialize - narrow our focus, and if not careful, our minds. We have hammers, we see nails. Not so smart.

Addiction (the elephant) is so complex, we (the blind men) see it from our own POV and argue with those who see more. It’s not either/or - it’s both/and then some.

First things to go when there are budget cuts: staffing, research, training and anything considered an unnecessary luxury. I’ve seen this movie several times. Next come the consequences: jails and hospitals filling up, ugly scenes on city streets, fed up employers, desperate families, death. Oops.

Greed: The Ultimate Addiction | Psychology Today www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/evol...

This country has an addiction problem on a social level. It’s more than just money and greed. It’s creature comforts and the avoidance of pain (which is anything not pleasant). It’s materialism.
Greed: The Ultimate Addiction
Of all the things one might be addicted to, nothing tops the greed-laden pursuit of wealth in its audacity, manipulativeness, and insensitivity to the needs and feelings of others.
