I am surrounded by people who are outsourcing their own thinking to ChatGPT and they are quickly and obviously becoming dependent on it for even the most banal tasks. Once again, the "figuring it out" is the important part. Yes, you can use a crane to lift weights but you will not get stronger

Dozens killed as the IDF launches artillery shells into crowds of starving people. The endless slaughter and torment of innocent civilians in Gaza needs to stop. Deliberate killing and starvation of civilians is an unambiguous war crime that should be met with immediate sanctions from the West.

I learned today that one of my top favorite artists, Starcadian, died last week. He was an incredible musician and a huge influence in the Synthwave genre. He will be sorely missed.

One reason I worry about LLMs is that research doesn't just give you the answer – it can't know that – it introduces you to worlds of context you have to parse through and decipher and explore, and through that build up a huge collection of incidental random competency. This just takes time. A life.
