If you think today's news media picture is grim, take stock of how Chicago's local journalists are getting at the truth despite Homeland Security's campaign of lies and intimidation.

"With local news in a severe tailspin for decades, there was a real question about whether Chicago’s media would meet the moment. But they have indeed," writes @markjacob.bsky.social in Stop The Presses.

Today is day 2 of my latest attempt to discard Instagram as my main social media platform. I'm definitely finding myself spending more time on bluesky and Tumblr, but with those platforms it so far seems easier to stop browsing, than to endlessly doom scroll

Finished my first Citizen Sleeper 2 playthrough and I'm *crying*. This game is so good, the characters, the music, every small choice and plot thread. Everything is so good. If you want something to do this week to distract your brain, I promise you won't have a bad time with Citizen Sleeper

Been playing Citizen Sleeper 2 since launch, and it's SUCH a wonderful game. I've especially loved seeing characters from the previous game.
The only downside is that I've been struck with a severe case of "I don't wanna" when it comes to anything else except cocooning and playing Citizen Sleeper 2

If, for various reasons, you find yourself with a tighter budget in the coming months/years (or just want to save/invest as much as possible), remember to take full advantage of your local library — and not just for books.

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.

We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

ALSO.

Highly recommend Rainbow Rowell's "Slow Dance" if you wanna spend your evening crying cause THAT'S where I'm at now.

It's refreshing reading a romance book with adult characters (most of the romance I read is shojo with late teens/early 20s characters), but ugh this is tearing at my heartstrings

It's hard to know what to say or whether it's even worth adding to the doom - what I will say is buy your trans friends' weird zine, their album, their art game - buy them a beer or a soda or a meal - give them some ko-fi money for doing absolutely nothing. We gotta protect trans kids and adults.
