Once hunted to local extinction in southern Finland, Wolverine has been observed returning to its historical range:
Wolverine returns to southern Finland
Wolverine has returned to southern Finland after being hunted to local extinction in the 19th century. Using satellite imagery and field data, scientists tracked the mammal's recovery and found that it favours older, mixed deciduous forests. Despite the comeback, Wolverine remains endangered in Finland due to habitat fragmentation, low genetic diversity and small population size.
