There may be many things to object to with these prosecutions, but people (& commentators who should know better) need to remember that no offences heard at magistrates get a jury trial.

It was a confederacy of nutters, then there was a war against the union of less nuttery nutters and the union won.
However, whilst the world moved on and attitudes changed, laws didn’t and lo and behold 160 years later the confederacy of nutters seem to be back in charge.
