The story of Tetris in, uh, Tetris on Apple is not what you expect. It's about an exec who falls in love with the game and going into late era USSR to get the inventor out and secure the rights. it's told like a spy movie with cover names and double crosses and other tropes of spy fiction. Great.

Pacino's "sorry we didn't give it to you for The Godfathers or virtually anything else in the 70s" Oscar should have been Donnie Brassco as tragic has-been mobster Lefty instead of Scent of the Woman. #moviesky

What sets Ellroy apart from most of his imitators and why he still thrives is because his books contain a ton of empathy. Inez and Lynn in L.A. Confidential, Danny in Big Nowhere, Hideo in Perfida, Laura Hughes in American Tabloid, and poor tragic lonely Marilyn Monroe in the Enchanters #booksky

There seems to be a vast under-appreciation for the lines we’ve crossed and the world we’re in.

Trump’s win has basically put us in a post-rules world.

People in power don’t feel constrained by rules and any remaining checks don’t feel empowered to be checks.

This reality has not set in yet.

This is also me.

And I can't stand the thought that I may have to mask anywhere indoors that is public for the rest of my life because of how others dealt (or didn't deal) with COVID.
I hope y'all learn to start masking in public again between now and March, because when I hit my five year anniversary of not having been in indoors public without a mask on *at all*, I'm going to be loud about it.

Half a decade. Half a decade myself and others have been holding this fort down.
