You can work with this. I had a similar situation but managed to turn it around, so if I am tickled, my kid will attack the tickler while screaming, “I protect the mama!”. The dog now follows the kid’s lead too.

Also, compromise tends to be more along the lines of "I'll work with you on a thing that's important to you if you'll work with me on a thing that's important to me", not "I'll give up one of my core beliefs if you'll join my coalition".

Once I was baking muffins while a plumber was at my house. When I offered him one with some coffee I swear he cycled through several emotions and then almost cried. (He ate it but looked like he felt guilty?) 🙁

Totally true. Even witnesses to crimes (including the literal victim) responding to investigators or on the witness stand struggle to translate their very real emotions in a way that investigators or juries can believe and not discount or ascribe alternative motivations to.

There is a similar correlation with “I don’t want to engage with this complex issue and am looking to skim over the tough parts by speaking in generalities, and I think this somehow is sufficient, adds value, and I’ve done my part” people.

My suggestion is to waste a lot more time on shit that keeps you at peace and stop efficiently doing much of anything
