Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there are loads of votes in “the Ed Miliband agenda, but we tell anyone who liked Ed Miliband they are dirty liberals who should be ashamed”.

Once you've seen this you can't unsee it (ht @stephenkb.bsky.social). politicians trying to describe things as "is this Labour", "this is not Labour", "there is nothing Labour about this", "this has the mandate of Labour, it partakes of the Labour nature" as a substitute for good or bad.

"It is terrible that Shabana Mahmood faces overt racism for being a high profile Asian woman" = good argument

"The key to ending overt racism against Asians in Britain is that we must Stop the Boats" = a very bad argument indeed, on so many levels

Lots of Labour MPs asking Mahmood tonight to rule out child detention. She won’t rule it out. That’s because forced removals of families will mean children in detention for periods.

Home Office ruling out deportation of lone minors but the changes will certainly mean more detention of children.

While we're on the subject of full-blown PR, my main concern about it (and why I would prefer AV) is that the likes of Akehurst and McSweeney would use it to kick all the liberals and left-wingers out of Labour, and permanently turn the party into the Danish Social Democrats

Why become an MP and then make contributions like David Williams just did? No questions, just arselicking.

Lmao. I forgot Gareth Snell slithered his way back into parliament. What a fucking loser.

The home secretary doesn't like the fact that Tommy Robinson loves her policy, but he does.

Great question from McDonnel, will children be detained as a result of these policies. Home secretary refuses to answer.

Great question from @stellacreasy.bsky.social on whether or not we will incarcerate children. Home secretary refuses to answer.

God it's pretty horrendous how the home sec is using her race to simply refuse to engage with questions. It was your fucking manifesto. If you didn't mean it, don't write it.

Will we melt down the family jewels of refugees or will we just chuck it on eBay?
November 17, 2025 at 6:28 PM
Bit rich for the home secretary to talk about being called a p*ki to inoculate herself from criticism. But the fact is that she's part of a government that has watched racism rise in this country and has done fuck all about it.
November 17, 2025 at 6:17 PM
A labour home secretary talking about deporting children who probably have never known a country other than the UK. This is a stain that will not out.

we call this the mcsweeney sweet spot
Those who hold more restrictive views on refugees are more likely to see Labour as pro-immigration, while those who hold more liberal views tend to see Labour as anti-immigration
