I assumed people would park on them if it didn't damage their cars. Keeping the bike lane lower means most vehicles would bottom out once they put their left tire in the lane.

The one in DC looks like it sucks. But the center-running bike lanes on Riverside Drive were an improvement (with fewer parked cars/trash cans). They'd be pretty good with an 8" concrete curb protecting them.

Valets do wild stuff, but also, it seems like the street was designed for that behavior

Something like Demonbreun Hill/12th South would be great if NDOT could actually get it in place. But I've convinced myself I like this better. bsky.app/profile/buse...
But since the garage has been burnt down and seems likely to be closed for a long time, there's an opportunity to change the road layout. Let's turn it into a boulevard and eliminate all mid-block turns by drivers. The valet drivers can park wherever they are parking now.

No a little before that article there was a veggie oil car community in Nashville which led to dozens of people driving Mercedes from the 80s. The speedometer on mine didn't work so I just drove slower than everybody else.
