Higher than I would’ve thought for Yesavage and lower than I would’ve thought for McLean.

No, and it takes all my self restraint not to look at it when I am watching the game on a delay (which is most of the time given kids/life schedule).

I actually thought at first that this was a fake ad for a fake company and it was going to be revealed later that this was a teaser for some new satirical dystopian drama. But I guess it’s not?

Yikes

This is a core tenet of my worldview and also one of the ways I try to sell baseball (unsuccessfully) to the uninitiated: Baseball is great because, as in life, almost everything is random and you have to just sort of believe that in the long run talent comes through.

Well consider my jaw dropped! Never would have picked them. And by a wide margin too!

Uh...what? Think there's some information missing here? Is this like, rise in WS odds from start of season or All Star break or something? I don't think the Mariners have the highest odds of winning the WS do they?

Why aren’t they just pitching Bradish? Won’t he be on usual rest?
September 11, 2025 at 3:45 PM
Like start start or serve as an opener?
September 2, 2025 at 3:17 PM
Yeah no they don’t which is most likely why the “businesspeople” (really just anyone who has to have a meeting online with someone abroad) always specify.

It’s because - might want to sit down - there are actually time zones OUTSIDE of the US, and they do daylight savings time on different dates. Some countries don’t do it at all!

So why did they pull Harrison from his start? And also…why are they doing this (going with a bullpen game)?
August 25, 2025 at 8:05 PM
I believe they actually calibrate mid-season. But certainly another piece of evidence in favor of the modified seams theory.

More of this. I think one way we can finally put to rest the whole dumb “nerds versus jocks” baseball war is for smart baseball players (of which there are many) to show some swagger when it comes to their knowledge of the game.

Curious as to how you interpret this. “Clutch” is random right? So these guys should regress higher as there are more opportunities?

I have him on my fantasy team and I keep repeating this to myself every day. The advanced stats look the same as they always have. But every day it gets harder to believe, particularly watching options go by like Augustin Ramirez and Drake Baldwin.

For sure the high cost of childcare/childbirth is a dissuasive factor, but I agree with you that it cannot explain all of it. Look at Europe. France has better than average public child care, and enjoys a better fertility rate than rest of Europe. But it’s still WELL below replacement rate.

Wow gratifying to see quantitative evidence that the Red Sox are indeed The Kings of Mid.

He looks sick.

All the statcast indicators look the same as they’ve been and his hardest hit ball of his career came this season. 🤷‍♂️

Take a look at that cutter usage…
