If you've got glucose, you've got options! Glycolysis tends to get all the spotlight, but that's just one way to go! (At least until you reach a one-way arrow!)

Welcome to the Bibel lab Ryan! We’re so happy to have you on our team! (And you seem to be good luck as Korina got the PCR figured out!)

LOOOOOONG day – up at Boston at 3:30 am to teach an afternoon lab until 5 in LA! (Followed by catching up on course prep for tomorrow morning’s class). PRIME was definitely worth it though!

I’m soooo grateful that I had the honor & privilege of presenting at the PRIME meeting. It was my first time representing LMU in a talk & I was so proud to get to share some of my students’ work, why I love teaching them in the lab, & how I plan to incorporate more students in research in a CURE

One of the great things about the teacher-scholar model of a place like LMU, where I get to both do research and teach, is that I feel like I have communities in both the research world and the undergraduate education world (although at times I feel like an imposter in both). @aktaguy.bsky.social

What a day! From a red-eye flight to a tour of the Cytiva factory, where I felt like I was in a whole different world in most of the rooms!

En route to Boston! PRIME Summit here I come. My talk's not until Wednesday but, tomorrow, Cytiva factory tour! Behind the scenes of where they make AKTAs!

Teaching undergraduates protein biochemistry is an immense privilege. Especially with this group of students!

Today, the entire Bibel lab was finally here at the same time. And, my chemicals order arrived! It was a lot of fun! More about the Bibel lab and what we do at LMU: bibellab.lmu.build

As I've begun building my lab and introducing students to protein purification, seeing their excitement, it's really hit home how incredible proteins are and how immense a privilege it is to get to explore them. I love feeling that I'm empowering my students with skills that can take them far.

It’s been a great but exhausting first 3 weeks of my first semester as an Assistant Professor at LMU!

Today, we took secondary structure to the next level!

This is just a random (for others) picture from office hours of a strategy for figuring out protonation status in pKa problems that students found helpful so thought I’d share. You can do similar with pI and charge instead of protonation.

My samples arrived safely from my prior lab!!!! Precious purified proteins, glycerol stocks, plasmids, and more all nice and safe in the -80°C freezer or 20°C freezer as appropriate. HUGE thanks to Dr. Karen Ruff at SMC for shipping them to me, FedEx for not losing them, and Mary Johnson here

Welcome Korina to the Bibel lab!
September 3, 2025 at 11:42 PM
Thanks to all my amazing colleagues at LMU for helping me get set up, thanks to my SMC students who got my work up and running over the past couple years, and thanks to Alice, Korina, and Liam who took the leap of faith in me and joined my lab! (unfortunately with barely-overlapping schedules…)

Welcome Alice to the Bibel Lab @ LMU! I promise most days will be more fun than taking inventory! (though finding a retro “pipet controller” box gave us a nice laugh :) Huge thanks to Dr. Sarah Mitchell for leaving us some of her old supplies!
