We use antibiotics and associated resistance genes as "selectable markers" to make sure we only allow bacteria that have the instructions for making our protein to grow by killing off the competition. youtube.com/shorts/D64cA...

Don't confuse your oligo synthesis scale with the actual yield!

When you purchase oligonucleotides (primers, etc.) you choose a synthesis scale, but that’s not the actual yield that’s in your tube. Rather, the actual amount will be lower
