Years back visiting Chicago I was reading Morrissey’s autobiography mainly when travelling on public transport. Never have so many men wanted to chat…but only about Moz & it was the final nail for Morrissey with me. Read in public? Choose the text wisely I say.
Assuming this is a real trend (I’m sceptical), reading books to get laid is basically the liberal answer to Andrew Tate that people were calling for. But not Harry Potter

“Racist discourse from the highest levels of UK society, including politicians and the media, is used to frame immigration as an existential threat to the British way of life … this works to justify ever more hostile immigration policies”

Another day, another crisis in Higher Education. Teaching pressures due to redundancies and cost cutting means many academics are already doing less research. But hey, why not wring another stress line….
Here's some more craziness from the waste of tax money in Higher Education: state R&D spending is huge, but pouring it into a collapsing system risks just pouring loads of it away. Making everything dependent on a Wild West of undergrad recruitment has gone spectacularly wrong.

A cluster of university failures is now a matter of when, not if. M'learned colleague @olimould.bsky.social suggests three quick fixes to avoid collapse: (1) emergency student number caps; (2) suspend REF 2029; (3) reverse visa policies. It's up to you.
