Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow

Convincing students about the importance of studying English literature isn’t always easy – but it’s a subject that perhaps teaches the most valuable skill of all, writes teacher Jack Dempsey
What’s the point of learning English?
Students often ask why we study literature, and there isn’t always an easy answer. But, in a way, this is exactly why it’s so important, argues this international school English teacher

This is often the response when I'm talking about why we aren't underpinning our lessons with reading high quality texts.

What has the biggest impact on children's life chances? It's not their test scores, or socio-economic background. It's READING FOR PLEASURE! So whatever else you do, please never stop sharing books with kids, and helping them to read. It will change their lives forever. #literacy #reading #books

The Nat Literacy Trust survey on Reading for Pleasure shows a big dip! 4 recommendations (my paraphrase):
1. Prioritise reading not as a means of evaluation
2.Include texts that resonate with children
3. Make time for independent reading
4. Make reading a 'social' not just an individual thing. 1/
