Build the thing you wish to see in the world

A blog post about building things because you want to, learning about #ATProto, and some recently influential conversations I've had on the @overcommitted.dev with @bradhe.net @turoczy.bsky.social and @ngerakines.me

Build the thing you wish to see in the world
For most of my career, I've been confusing building products with building businesses—and that confusion kept me from pursuing a lot of ideas. Two weeks off helped me realize that not everything needs...

This is my pup Timber.

He took a tumble yesterday so we are at the vet getting X-rays of ✨ everything ✨

He's not happy to be here but you wouldn't be able to tell with that cute face.

This was a great read! Particularly important to read if you are early in career or looking to get into tech 👀

Looking forward to the rest of this series!
We need more humanizing elements in engineering.

As such, I'm starting a blog post series that outlines personal (and sometimes extremely vulnerable) experiences that I think touch on the interpersonal aspects of our field.

To start? Survivorship bias.

The truth about #AI and developer jobs... It's not what you think! 👀

Perhaps ZIRP is more to blame for tech layoffs than AI?

I used to be able to play a Gameboy in the car with no issues.

Now I get nauseous if I read a street sign that's too long while in the car.

Growing up is a trap.

Shocking everyone, that Black Friday sale that was DEFINITELY only available for a limited time at store XYZ, has now been EXTENDED! Better act fast!

A tisket, a tasket, I made a derpy little basket.

Working on this little #ATProto app has been the joy of my Thanksgiving week. There are so many built in things that make building a social app on ATProto so incredibly easy.

Listening to This is for Everyone by @timbl.bsky.social and I had no idea the first web browser was created in 1990. In my not-CS-educated mind I thought for some reason it would have been in the 1970s.

This is such a lovely book for anyone who is interested in this kind of origin story.

A bit of a vulnerable post by me but we need your help to get us through what has been a more difficult period than 2020.

It would be really appreciated if you could read and share in your networks too 💛

It’s been a very hard year - Andy Bell
Unlike a lot of places in tech, my company, Set Studio/Piccalilli has no outside funding. Bootstrapped is what the LinkedIn people say, I think. It’s been a hard year this year. A very hard year...

The fact that I can ignore all the identity/auth/user stuff for #atproto apps is such a superpower. That always stops me on personal projects. I don't want to have to care about those things. I just want to make stuff.

After the recent Developers Who Write starter pack I realized I wanted a more software-focused feed, since that's mostly what I'm here for. Created this with @graze.social

Great for:

- Finding other software talk
- Catching up on the latest AI drama
- Learning

I just started experimenting with @graze.social and it is so cool! Excited about this conversation 😁

@trustyduck.bsky.social and I had a lovely conversation with @kateholterhoff.com about what developer analysts do and how to keep up with this crazy #tech industry.

Dear Bluesky tech folks,

I have a potentially unpopular opinion. What if #AI could actually be used to reduce tech debt? 👀
