I teach law students, coach lawyers, and represent survivors of human trafficking. She/hers
Sometimes we don’t appreciate the things we walk by everyday.

Today I stopped and appreciated the view outside my office door.

You should have asked what he does for a living, and if he'd be OK with you sending him hate mail when you get bored.

Excited to share an article about our Designing a Fulfilling Life in the Law ⚖️ course at Michigan Law. Taylor Wilson, a student from the course, co-wrote the article with us.

We love helping others start courses like this! Please reach out to us!

Immigration Law was one of the most shocking and depressing courses in law school. It's so much worse than most people even imagine. ⚖️
Pretty much everything about the immigration system shocks outsiders:

- Backlogs for immigrant visas range from 2 years to 150 years.
- Outcomes at the border are often fundamentally arbitrary.
- Children can face deportation without a lawyer.
- Legal frameworks date back to 19th century racism.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Human trafficking does not require transportation in any form.

It is a crime of exploitation not movement
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Federal judges may sentence someone based on alleged conduct related to uncharged crimes and crimes for which the jury returned a not guilty verdict. See US v Watts (1997).

I won this painting in a silent auction this weekend for $15. It was done in 1974 by an Ann Arbor artist. It is the Engin arch on UM’s campus. I can’t explain why but it fills me with joy to have it.

My T-shirt for Michigan Law orientation! So grateful for the opportunity to talk with all of the incoming students about the abundance of the legal profession.

I would love to know what others are doing -- especially around the skill of reflection.
I am finding the reality of AI is pushing me to be even more intentional in crafting both my in class and out of classroom time with my students. Right now my classes seem to be moving to the edges, super low and super high tech. I am excited to see how it all feels!

Grateful to live in the same community as @denniskennedy.bsky.social Our breakfast meetings always energize me!

How did I get so lucky to have him as a mentor?

I still pinch myself! (And our Hoosier connection is the icing on the cake.) ⚖️

I had big plans today- to tackle the syllabus for the new clinic we are launching. I have no syllabus to show but I did hang all these frames in my office.

Procrastination = office decor win! ⚖️

Appalling.
“In the middle of the night Saturday, a 2-1 split panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals issued a ruling that allows Tennessee to enforce S.B. 1, the state’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors.”

Law Dork:
Split appeals court says Tennessee's trans care ban can go into effect during appeal
"We may be wrong," Judge Jeffrey Sutton wrote for himself and Judge Amul Thapar. They are the only judges to rule that bans on gender-affirming care for minors are likely constitutional.

I had a super hard day on Friday and then arrived home to discover Queen Charlotte. It felt like a personal treat sent to me by Shondaland. I am loving it!
